Sun 'n Fun returns to Lakeland with more high-flying aerial shows

LAKELAND - The Sun 'n Fun International Fly-In and Expo, the largest fly-in in the Southeastern United States, kicks off the 2018 season Tuesday (April 10) and runs through April 15 at the Sun 'n Fun, 4175 Medulla Road in Lakeland.

Perennial crowd favorites, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, are scheduled to perform Saturday and April 15. However, newcomer TORA! TORA! TORA! : a re-creation of the events of Pearl Harbor, complete with authentic Japanese aircrafts and plenty of pyrotechnics - also expects to draw a crowd. TORA! TORA! TORA! is scheduled to perform on Saturday and April 15 as well.

On Tuesday, events will include a morning hot air balloon experience, educational tours and Flight Line tours. The campsite will include an outdoor theater screening "Ace's Flyin' Flix," beginning with Bat 21 today (April 8). Other films to be screened during the fly-in include Air America; Always; Firefox; The Right Stuff; The Fighting Lady and Hell Divers.

With more than 500 aviation vendors and exhibitors, as well as an area for autograph seekers, there will be plenty to keep aviation buffs busy. A kids zone, car show, educational tours - and even drone races - are all on tap to keep the family entertained.

Admission is 15 for youth and free for those 10 and under. Parking is $10. There are discounts available for aviation member organizations and active U.S. military members as well.
