Farmer opens The Windmill Natural Cafe in North Tampa

TEMPLE TERRACE - Growing up on a small family farm in Minnesota, Chuck Homuth learned the importance of sustainable and responsible farming.

This ultimately led him to open Chuck's Natural Fields Market in Temple Terrace in 1992, and a second location in Brandon in 1998. His stores offer a variety of organic fruits and vegetables along with bulk foods, herbs and beauty products.
Homuth decided to expand again, opening a restaurant next door to his market in Temple Terrace.

The Windmill Natural Cafe offers American Contemporary cuisine that is non-GMO. In addition, there are gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options and food is grown with organic standards.

"We try to source local as much as possible," said Homuth, owner.

Many of the organic ingredients used come from Homuth's farm located an hour north of Tampa. He has connections with other nearby farmers, so he uses locally sourced ingredients such as grass-fed beef.

Menu items include salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers and seafood, and breakfast is also available. In addition to food, locally brewed beer, kombucha and organic wine is served.

Diners can eat indoors, or enjoy the large, outdoor courtyard and dining area.

There is live music and entertainment on Saturday nights and an Open Mic Night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. every Friday.

The Windmill Natural Cafe is at 11401 N 56th St. It is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call (813) 980-6900 or visit facebook.com/Windmillnaturalcafe.
