Newgentek, a local systems integration company, recently held its first annual charity golf tournament on September 10 at the Temple Terrace Golf Course to benefit its new charity partner, Computer Mentors.
The tournament was a success raising $3,000 for the charity from multiple donors and sponsors in the audio, video and technology industries such as JBL, Sonance, Legrand AV, Brother, AMX and Cisco.
Computer Mentors is a non-profit charity organization dedicated to educating and mentoring underserved youth in the Tampa Bay area in the fields of technology and entrepreneurship, among other disciplines.
Computer Mentors' volunteers help provide programs for programming foundations, robotis application and controls, video production and app development and more.
"We are overjoyed that Newgentek has chosen Computer Mentors as the non-profit beneficiary of their golf tournament," said Ralph Smith, the founder of Computer Mentors Group in a prepared statement.
"This donation will help us continue to meet our mission, which is to provide opportunities for educational and employment success through bridging the technology divide for populations without sufficient economic resources, especially as it relates to children and youth."
Chon Nguyen, the founder and CEO of Newgentek, says he discovered his passion for technology at a very young age and was fortunate to have the resources available to develop his passion, but wanted to pour into those children that may not be as fortunate.
"I know not every child has that opportunity," he said.
"I heard about Computer Mentors at a local tech event, and I knew it was a charity I wanted to help in the future. I'm glad we have an opportunity to do so, and I'm thankful to our sponsors for supporting our efforts."
