When Amber and Josh Marcotte opened Teal Plank Workshop in Brooksville two years ago, Stephanie Adams attended the store's second ever do it yourself workshop.
And she immediately got hooked.
She returned with her husband, Keith Adams, and the two have been regulars at the workshop, forming a friendship with the Marcotttes.
The Adams decided to open their own Teal Plank Workshop franchise in Odessa, but first had to find the right location.
For two months, they drove around looking for the perfect place. A building with a large, wrap-around porch located by a lake with trees, cows and horses nearby answered their vision.
"When we saw this spot, we fell in love with it right away," said Keith Adams, co-owner. "The spot, to me, lends itself to creativity and peacefulness."
Teal Plank Workshop offers DIY workshops where guests can paint wooden items such as signs, wine caddies, farmhouse shelves, blanket ladders, dog bowl stands and Florida shaped cutouts. There are also plans for farmhouse furniture workshops.
Guests go online and chose a workshop they'd like to attend and what item they'd like to paint. During the three-hour session, they go through a process.
First, sand the item.
Next, choose between distressing the wood or moving on to the step of painting or staining the wood.
After it dries, stencils and more paint are used for the design. A large variety of colors are available, and special colors will be added during holidays.
"Our main goal at Teal Plank is to create an atmosphere and experience for our guests that come in," Stephanie Adams said.
The Adams want to support local business, so food and beverages will be available to order from nearby Three Brothers Pizza. Guests may also bring their own food, beer and wine.
Both private and public workshops are available, as well as kids parties. The workshops are ideal for corporate events, team building, girls' night out, bachelorette parties, birthday parties and more.
