TAMPA - For 13 years, Finney's Tiger-Rock Martial Arts co-owners Troy and Nikki Finney have provided more than just Taekwondo instruction for their students.

The husband and wife duo have created a supportive, family environment that teaches valuable life lessons through the Tenets of Taekwondo.

"What we believe in is taking students on a journey," said Nikki Finney, a former elementary school teacher.

Through practice and hard work, students "transform," or rank up belt levels.

"We believe in building athletes," said Nikki Finney. "A lot of our classes are built on agility, speed, conditioning and power."

Although the majority of classes offered are for young students, the adult program has grown significantly since the studio opened.

Six years ago, Amy Redwine started bringing her daughters to classes, and instead of just sitting and watching, she decided to try it herself. Now, she is an instructor.

"I fell in love with it," said Redwine. "It's been life changing for me."

Due to increasing enrollment and to better fulfill the needs of their students, the Finneys recently moved to a location that is double the size of their previous studio. Stadium style seating and plenty of windows give parents ample space to view classes.

Finney's Tiger-Rock Martial Arts is in the North Bay Commerce Center at 13863 W Hillsborough Ave. Classes are held Monday-Saturday. For more information, call (813) 818-4649, or visit facebook.com/Finneys.MartialArts.
