LUTZ - When Rick Schmidt opens his new music school, Bach To Rock, platinum awards, autographed items and guitars from musicians with Florida connections to Florida will adorn the walls.
With more than 20 years in the radio and music industry, Schmidt has represented numerous artists. As a radio program director, he helped launch the careers of Florida's own Sister Hazel, Creed and Shinedown.
A few years ago, Schmidt researched music schools for his children and found that most local schools are in teachers' homes or small offices. Wanting to find something unique and innovative, he decided Bach to Rock was the answer because it offers a fun and cool approach to music education.
"Tampa Bay area families will surely benefit from the progressive music education program that Bach to Rock provides in a variety of music genres like alternative, country, pop, rock, jazz and EDM," Schmidt said.
Bach to Rock turns traditional, solitary music lessons into a group activity that focuses on providing a well-balanced music education with an extensive curriculum. Students get to jam with other kids right away and play current hits.
A variety of programs will be offered for students of all ages, including lessons in piano, voice, guitar, drum and DJ. There also are music programs for preschoolers and toddlers, beginning piano for children in grades K-2, camps and birthday parties.
Bach to Rock is slated to open this fall. It will be located at 17463 N Dale Mabry Highway in the Van Dyke Commons shopping center. For more information, visit b2rmusic.com.
