CARROLLWOOD - With 10 years experience in the educational field, Carla Lanser knows firsthand that there is a need for coding to be taught in schools.
"Most schools don't have the resources to give kids a consistent coding education," Lanser said. "It's such a great life skill for anything."
On June 23, Lanser and business partners Raj and Monal Mathur will celebrate the grand opening of Code Ninjas in Carrollwood.
Code Ninjas is a Houston-based franchise that teaches coding to students ages 7-14. Learning from "Code Senseis," who are highly qualified college and high school students, the students work towards achieving different colored belts as they learn and progress.
"The way the curriculum is designed is that each time the child comes in they build a game," Lanser said. "Within each game, they're learning new skills as they build it and those skills are added onto the next game."
Beginning June 25, Code Ninjas will offer full- and half-day summer camps such as Game Builders Club, Code Drones and Roblox Create. There are also drop-in learning hours and Parent's Night Out events.
A grand opening celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 23. There will be science demonstrations, tours, and giveaways.
Code Ninjas Carrollwood is at 14349 N Dale Mabry Highway. For more information, call (813) 603-6509, or visit codeninjas.com/locations/fl-tampa-carrollwood.
