Though Quality Foods Gourmet Market doesn't celebrate their grand opening until Saturday (June 9), owners Christopher and Emily Houp have already had customers drive from as far away as Orlando.
That's because their new specialty store is the only place in Florida that carries products from The Herbivorous Butcher, which specializes in small batch, all vegan meats and cheeses.
In addition to gluten-free and vegan items from local companies such as Mammoth Foods and HaleLife Bakery, Quality Foods offers a variety of artisan food, sauces, spices, salsas, fresh bread, pastries, baked goods, produce and more.
In February, the husband and wife duo started Lake Chapman Market which focuses on food and products from local vendors, and their new store carries items from many of those vendors.
"Keeping in line with our farmers market, we're really trying to do as much local as we can," said co-owner Christopher Houp.
In the kitchen, Christopher Houp prepares freshly made sauces, pastas, sandwiches, vegan pizzas, and charcuterie and cheese boards. Customers can purchase food to go or dine in the market.
"Food has always been a passion of mine," said Christopher Houp. "Food should be enjoyed, no matter what your preference is."
A large variety of local craft beer is available in cans, on tap, and in growlers. In addition, Italian wines are available on tap and can be poured fresh into bottles to take home. There is also a selection of wines, including bottles from Plant City's Keel-&-Curley Winery.
The store's grand opening from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday will include local vendors, giveaways, tastings and more.
