Having a basement in your house might seem like a foreign concept to native Floridians who grew up instead with backyard swimming pools, but people from other parts of the country know the special value of this hidden bonus room.

So when husband and wife Jason and Ashley Carrio were looking for a theme for their new bar, they recalled all of the fun times spent in their basement growing up in Massachusetts.

"That's where we had everything," said Ashley Carrio, co-owner.

The Basement is designed to make visitors feel like they're hanging out with friends in their basement. The '80s themed bar is decorated with music and movie posters, and there are couches, a pool table, a foosball table, darts, and plans for arcade games. Of course, there is '80s music, and Friday and Saturday nights feature a DJ and dancing. Thursday is Ladies Night, and there are also trivia and karoke nights.

The Basement serves wine and beer, including a rotating selection of local craft beer. Though food isn't served, guests can bring in food or use Uber Eats.

The Basement is at 26252 Wesley Chapel Blvd. It's open from 2 p.m. to midnight Monday-Thursday, 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call (813) 527-6562, or visit thebasementwc.com.
