Water Works Park will overflow with worship May 28 when Oasis of Tampa Bay Church hosts its annual City-Wide Pentecost Celebration.

The free festival will honor Pentecost, a Christian holiday commemorating the Holy Spirit's ascension unto Christ's disciples, which falls on May 20 this year.

Christians worldwide consider Pentecost the historical beginning of the church. Countries including Germany and Greece recognize it as a public holiday meant to bring spiritual rejuvenation. Traditionally, it is celebrated 50 days after Easter.

Though less noted in the United States, Pentecostal American churches and others continue to emphasize the holiday.

The Water Works event will include music, worship and dancing from 3 to 7:30 p.m. on May 28. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Area pastors will pray with the crowd.

If you go to the event, know it will be high energy. If you prefer quiet worship, it might not be for you. Pentecost crowds cheer for the Lord with vocal enthusiasm.

Oasis, led by Pastor Dan Eberly, focuses its ministries on intercessory prayer and the receiving of the Holy Spirit.
