Hundreds of people are expected to converge on Keystone Park, 17928 Gunn Highway, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (April 21) for the sixth annual "Taste of Keystone'' chili cook-off and business expo.
Some 15 chili chefs will square off to see whose mixture gets voted the best. Admission to the "Taste of Keystone'' is free, though tickets for all-you-can-eat chili are $5 per person. The ticket also serves as a ballot, so each sampler is a judge. They drop the ballot in a container on the table of the chili they like best.
The first and second place winners will be awarded gift certificates to Chili's restaurant, said Tom Aderhold, who helps organize the event for the Keystone Civic Association.
Those attending the event can also check out more than 35 vintage cars and motorcycles, a car show by Clubs-&-You, and listen to live music by BODI.
About two dozen Keystone businesses and farms will have tables set up to show off their products and services. Among them are Golden Spirit Alpaca Ranch, DeDomenico Orthopedics, Quantum Leap Farm, Lugo Martial Arts and Overhead Door.
A raffle will be held, too.
Proceeds go to the Keystone Community Fund and will be used to help fund the Future Farmers of America programs at Steinbrennar and Sickles High Schools.
"We provide money for supplies and equipment they need for the school year,'' Aderhold said.
Last year about 1,500 people showed up for the "Taste of Keystone,'' Aderhold said.
"We're starting to rival the Family Fun Day,'' he added, noting that some 2,500 attend that event at the park in October.
